As the year 2003 ends this is our last Police Activity report. It was our objective to publish one report a month which we accomplished. The reason for these reports is to be open and transparent to keep you informed of the progress we have made. To enhance media relations allowing a free flow of information to the public on crimes and incidents thereby improving confidence in policing. Also updating activities surrounding policing methods, appealing for information to assist with outstanding crimes. This year has been a success and without your assistance we would have not achieved our objectives. We extend thanks to all of you who have assisted the service in one way or the other.
There are a few general issues that are still affecting the community which I would like to mention. Whilst on the crime front which continues to be relatively quiet. However there is an outstanding matter where a report is under investigation of a missing 20 foot container. If you came by this container by a mistake or know of its whereabouts, then please contact us or leave a message on the Confidential Crime line 6777.
There is concern for litter on the island. Recently the Public Services cleared the litter of the road from Two Boats to Georgetown. This mainly consists of bottles and cans. Despite this being undertaken there is evidence of this still occurring, and to include other roads. It appears that litter is thrown from moving vehicles. A word of advice, when travelling in a vehicle be sure to consume your beverage before the start of your journey. Other areas affected are the Pier Head and Georgetown sports field. This is unsightly and untidy in the eyes of the public. You should make every effect to dispose of your litter properly in the refuse bins provided or take it home. We will however in due course be campaigning a strategy with other agencies to combat this problem. If you are caught disposing litter in a public place and if convicted you could be fined £100. You are advised to be more litter conscious.
On Christmas Eve Santa’s Grotto will be set up in front of June’s shop in Two Boats. To maintain public safety, the road from Two Boats Club and the CSO Office, will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 18,00hrs – 21,30hrs. The appropriate signs will be in place to direct your line of travel. Your cooperation on this occasion will be appreciated.
It is customary at the time of year to deliver a Christmas message. We do not want to dampen your sprits during the festive season. We would like for every one to enjoy your selves and keep safe. There will however be others who will be driving for what ever reason. If you intend to drive you are advised to be safety conscious and do not drink and drive. Better still have a designated driver that has not been drinking. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
On behalf of the Detachment may I take this opportunity of wishing everyone, a happy and peaceful Christmas. May the year 2004 be prosperous not only for you, but for your Police Service as well?
