Ascension : Conservation Weekly - Beach Cleanup Submitted by The Islander (Conservation Office) 13.11.2008 (Article Archived on 27.11.2008)
The 2008 Annual Island Wide Beach Cleanup was a success.

The 2008 Annual Island Wide Beach Cleanup was a success. Thanks to our hard working and dedicated volunteers, we made good progress cleaning our turtle beaches in preparation for the nesting season. The AIG Conservation Department would like to extend a thank you to all of our volunteers who helped on Saturday with the Beach Cleanup, especially Johnny Hobson and Shari Parkhill for help organising the Scouts and Brownies and to Justin Coleman for help with the Interserve volunteers. Many thanks to the CSR and USAF staff who did a great job on Pan Am and with the BBQ. A special thank-you goes out to Frances Dixon, whose assistance with the planning and implementation made the event possible. There is still some work to do, so anyone interested in helping out (mostly clearing invasive plants) is very welcome to stop by or phone the Conservation Centre x6359.
CAT OWNERS: If you own a cat on Ascension, it is your responsibility to look after it. This means that you must make sure that your cat wears a collar at all times and you must notify the Conservation Dept. as soon as your cat goes missing. You should also let us know if you are leaving the island for holiday (or permanently) and who will be looking after your cat during your absence. Thank you!
