Ascension : SSAFA Big Brew UP 2008
Submitted by The Islander (Islander Internet Editor) 16.10.2008 (Article Archived on 30.10.2008)

Over 60 people attended the SSAFA Big Brew Up 2008 at the Base Headquarters on Tuesday 7 October 2008

Over 60 people attended the SSAFA Big Brew Up 2008 at the Base Headquarters on Tuesday 7 October 2008 where a magnificent sum of

£265 was raised for SSAFA Forces Help.

The event is held annually by military units all over the world who participate by holding a coffee morning, tea party or big breakfast during October.

Mr Larry Poultney from Serco Defence kindly sponsored this year’s event by donating supplies of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and squash and

Executive Head Chef Andy Rattew and Head of Sodexho Mrs Joyce Benjamin made sure we had enough knives, forks, cups, plates, napkins and teapots.    Many volunteers baked cakes, buns, scones, flapjacks and other goodies and many others gave cash donations.

A big thank you to Saint FM for advertising the event on the radio; thanks to

Mrs Jacqui Magill for pouring endless cups of tea and for cleaning up at the end; thanks also to Jane Culleton from Serco who sold cakes and goodies to the IDL workforce who couldn’t make it to the event and thanks to

Tasty Tucker for loaning us the water boiler!

And last but not least, thank you to everyone who made the event the success that it was!
