Ascension Island was once again highlighted in the Sports Fishing World when a  Blue Marlin weighing in at a massive 1,213 lbs and measuring some 12ft 1.5 inches was landed on Friday, 08th October, by the crew of the Sports fishing yacht “Wild Hooker”.  The catch was a personal best for the owner of the boat Mr Allen Stuart who has caught three granders (more than a thousand pounds).

Allen is one of only three people in the world who has caught a grander in two different oceans.  His goal is to catch another grander in the Pacific Ocean, an accomplishment which would make him the only person in the world to have achieved that feat in three different oceans.

Coincidentally, Allen landed this catch on the last day of his 10 day fishing trip to Ascension, having now returned to Louisiana, USA.

Many of you may have witnessed the arrival of the mother ship “Madam” along with the “Wild Hooker” on tow on Sunday, 28 September.  The “Madam” under the command of Captain Al Roper and the “Wild Hooker” skippered by Captain Oskie Rice with an additional five crew will be with us until 5 December.

Their sponsors PELAGIC are due to arrive on Ascension in November bringing with them a film crew from ESPN.  Also due to arrive are the 2008 Sports Fishing World Cup winners, one of which coincidentally happens to be the father of the “Wild Hooker’s” captain Oskie Rice.

The Islander wishes them a very enjoyable stay and good luck in their future record breaking catches!
