This year, the 1st Ascension Brownies has a dozen girls! They are an eager and enthusiastic group who has already performed their first service duty. They cleared weeds from the grounds of Fort Thornton, thereby helping with the restoration project.
Unfortunately, one of our assistant Owls has had to retire from the group, and the other is not going to be available to help us as much this year. Although we are fortunate in having the assistance of a young leader, Danielle Yon, who has kindly joined our group, we must have two adult leaders at all times, for safety issues, and also due to the fact that I am on 24 hour call, and have in the past, been called away in the middle of a meeting!
As well, due to other commitments, this will unfortunately have to be my last year as Brown Owl. I have enjoyed my years with the girls, but after five years, I think it is time to pass the reins on to someone else. It would be great if a new leader could join us, and we could have a transition year.
If we do not find another leader in the near future, we may have to suspend the Brownies, which would be unfortunate as the girls are all eager to continue with their fun and learning and “lending a hand”. It is a great experience for them to be part of the world-wide Guiding movement.
If you could spare a few hours a week to help out, we’d love to have you join us!! Please contact me if you can help.
With many thanks, and a “Well Done” to the girls for their work at the Fort!
