GENERAL ELECTION - 14 OCTOBER 2008

Proxy Voting

What is Proxy Voting?

Proxy voting gives you the opportunity to have someone cast a vote on your behalf if you are off island, ill or physically incapacitated at the time the General Election takes place (Tuesday, 14 October 2008).  All you need to do is obtain a Proxy Form (Form C), fill it in appropriately and return it to the Returning Officer. The person you have chosen to be your proxy will then receive written authorisation (Form D) from the Returning Officer to cast a vote on your behalf.

Applications for a proxy vote (Form C) should be made as soon as possible to the Returning Officer, (tel no 7000 x 130).  Please note that signed forms must be returned to the above-named officer by 4 pm on Friday, 10th October 2008

What Happens on Polling Day?

On Polling Day, Tuesday 14 October 2008, the person you have chosen to be your proxy will come to the Polling Station between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm, bringing with them the written authorisation (Form D) from the Returning Officer.

Your proxy then presents the Form D to the Presiding Officer who, once satisfied as to the authenticity of the Form and identity of the Proxy, will issue him/her with a ballot paper to cast a vote on your behalf.

Don’t miss the opportunity to participate in the
