The Archives building was discovered to be in worse condition as a result of the leaks than first thought.
The Archives building was discovered to be in worse condition as a result of the leaks than first thought. It was decided by the Heritage Society that a complete cleaning was required. Last Saturday, Society members and volunteers came together to move all the buildings’ contents to the magazine for the time being. The next task will be a thorough cleaning and protective painting before the archival and office materials are returned to the building. Thanks to Ben, Gene, Roy, Jim, Richard, Jay, Ed, Bill, Ryan and Danielle for helping out. I hope I haven’t left anyone out!
We have found a volunteer to tackle our US WWII Army sign project. Mike Burkitt will be making signs that will identify many of the heritage sites around the island. We are really pleased to be able to move on with this project. We’ll keep you informed of our progress.
This week, the Ascension Heritage Society says good-bye to Elizabeth Hill, our former Chairman. Over the three years Elizabeth has been on Ascension Island, she has immersed herself in the history of this strange little rock in the middle of the vast ocean. She has contributed to the Heritage Society and Museum in so many ways. She has overseen the establishment of new exhibits, tracked down reference materials, uncovered history, and even painted walls! She will be sorely missed, and passes on an updated museum and vibrant Society. Thanks for everything you’ve done, Elizabeth! Good luck in the future.
Elizabeth From all your friends – Good Luck!!
