Restoration work at Fort Thornton is still continuing.
Restoration work at Fort Thornton is still continuing. Most of the trash has been removed and we will soon start on cleaning and erection of safety barriers. Thanks are extended to Alan Lawrence for his welding skills in reattaching the gated door on the front building of the fort. Many thanks go out to Gene Austin who has taken the lead (and done most of the work!) on this project.
The archives building developed a serious leak a few weeks ago. This was endangering some of the important materials being stored in the building. A few of the Heritage Society members had a fine, if somewhat messy, time pressure washing the foundation and lower bricks of the building last week. Then it was time for Ben and Gene to caulk and seal the area. Hopefully, this will solve our problem! Thanks go out to the Georgetown Hospital for sharing their precious water supply with the Heritage Society so that we could get this project done!

There is a plan afoot to create a couple of new letterboxes! Watch this space for future announcements on that front, and dust off your hiking boots!
