There was a great turnout for the showing of Col. Zwinger’s video last week at the Volcano Club last week!  We would like to thank everyone who attended, CSR and the VC staff for their help, and especially Jeremy Adamowicz for running the show!  It was fascinating to see what had changed since 1946 and what has stayed the same.  I did let Col. Zwinger know that getting out of a boat at the pierhead was still “dicey”!

An update on the Museum Mystery of several months ago regarding the WWII carving behind Bates Tank at Dampier’s Drip:  While we haven’t yet located the carved concrete sign or rock that we had a picture of, some eagle eyed members of the Heritage Society have uncovered another one!  From what can be deciphered it looks to say:

“GOING TO

THE STATES

MAY 15, 1943

WE HOPE”

Doug Rogers was impressed with our find!!  If you are out wandering in the Dampier’s Drip area, see if you can find it!  And please, keep looking for the other sign!

Restoration work at Fort Thornton is still continuing.  If anyone has a little time on Saturday mornings to volunteer, we’d love to see you at 9:30.

Is there anyone out there with carpentry skills who would like to donate an hour or two?  We need help with our sign project.  We need to have some boards cut, and painted.  This work could be done at a time convenient to the volunteer.

If you can help out, just contact someone from the Heritage Society!
