Everyone met at the Motor Cross Track this week. There were lots of new faces and plenty familiar ones too.  Two Cocks explained the deal and that there was going to be a fair number of circle checks for all.  All headed off down the rocks to the sea, down through a rocky ravine and onto the plains. There was a call from the runners who had spurted off to South Red Crater and later met the rest back up on the plains bearing old bones that they had picked up on route (not any of the hashers we recognised?!). Then it was off over towards the mountains only to be met by a back arrow and a trail off to the other direction. Back on track, we went up through a path shanked by some high mushroom rocks at the foot of Green Top Crater. It was hard to believe Two Cocks when he told us that the steep climb over those huge boulders was not as bad as it looked. But the boulders were fairly solid and stable. True to Two Cocks’ word we all managed it easier that expected.  Then it was an upwards homeward trail over some more rocks. At this point there looked to be two options. The steep and awkward climb over some less stable boulders or the gently undulating path running alongside.  Some on the steeper route were clearly wondering where it had all gone wrong and how they had been led astray.  Soon the road was in sight and it was a homeward arrow back to the start.

Lanky turned up and it was down to some hash business. There was plenty of it. First up was Patsy who is now known as Skinny Butt. Stacey became One Dollar Woman, Bill became Portocabin, with a nod to his namesake Bungalow Bill, and Harley Davidson rider Bruce became Rice Burner. Good job the rain stayed off a while. Thanks to I’m Easy and Two Cocks for a great hash.

Next week: Barrack Block Patio 13, US Base.

****Special Hidden Hash and Kiddies Hash too*********

Hares: Bloodsucker

Time: 4.30pm

I lived on Asc AAFB during most of 1960.

I have some 8mm movies IF I can locate where I have them stored.

John "Netty" Packer ZD8JP was my ham radio buddie who worked at C&W in Georgetown.

I placed the photo of the pond on Green Mountain as my centered background on my pc. It reminds me that I stood there some 48 years ago.
I have not had contact with Netty to know if he is even still alive back in the UK. Might someone there now happen to know of him?

I loved the climate and especially all of the scuba diving I did with the scuba club from the base. I was 23 yrs old at that time.

The website is just MAGNIFICENT and I will be keeping up with "The Islander" from now on. My very best wishes to all inhabitants of today. Are there any active ham radio ops there now?
Warmest regards. Aubrey San Marcos CA since 1970, born and raised in Tulsa OK.
