Ascension : Rockin’ Atlantic!
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 04.09.2008 (Article Archived on 18.09.2008)

There was a good turn-out of islanders at the Saints Club on Saturday 16 August bopping along to the beat of Atlantic Rock!

Church Council Member Johnny Green, along with Alan Stevens and members of the band are to be commended for the effort they put in preparing for the evening’s entertainment.  The hall was beautifully decorated and on the evening the atmosphere was excellent despite the weather being so unpredictable.

Funds raised from this event were as follows:

Entrance fee                £399.37

Food Sales                  £203.54

Raffle                          £104.00

Total                            £706.91

After expenses the sum of £701.51 was banked.

The Council would like to personally thank Johnny and Alan plus the band members: Alvin Henry, Kerry Lawrence, Colin Cranfield, Michael George and Clarence Roberts for all the weeks spent rehearsing for the dance and for the efforts they put in on the night.

Well done to Alan, Johnny, Alvin and their helpers for the good job they did with creating and decorating the stage.  Grateful thanks are extended to Norman, Cilla and staff of the Saints Club for the use of the hall and for keeping the drinks flowing throughout the night.

Thanks also to Elaine Arms and her helpers: Sam, Francesca, Carolyn and TG, who kept everyone fed with their tasty selection of fishcakes, hotdogs and soup.  You did a great job!

Thank you also to those people whose kind donations and services helped to keep costs to a minimum, especially to IDL for the pallets to construct the stage.  Your kindness is much appreciated.

Finally, thanks to all of you who came to appreciate the band and to spend an evening of entertainment with us.  We hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did!  Thanks too, to those of you who bought raffle tickets for the food hampers.  Congratulations to the winners: Laura Stroud and Alex Gordon!

Thanks and God Bless.
