Ascension : Press Release - St Helena - Polling Day Approaches
Submitted by The Islander (Islander Internet Editor) 28.08.2008 (Article Archived on 11.09.2008)

Polling Day is fast approaching and soon, people will have the opportunity to elect a new councillor for the West Electoral Area.

The candidates are Mr Eric Walter George of Palm Cottage, Jamestown; Mr Anthony Arthur Green of Oltonia, Knollcombes; and Mr Cyril Keith Gunnell of Cashem House, Napoleon Street.

Voting will be confidential and voting procedures can be found in the press release of 13 August which was printed in last week’s newspapers.

Returning Officer, Ethel Yon said “People of the West Electoral Area, you have three candidates to choose from. I urge you to cast your vote on Polling Day, 3 September 2008.” She added that if people have queries they can contact her, Gillian Francis, Aldhelm Garner or Jacky Lawrence.

If registered electors need to vote by proxy, they can collect forms from the following: on St Helena, Gillian Francis or Aldhelm Garner; on Ascension, Gerrilyn Crowie; and on The RMS St Helena, from the Purser at the Bureau

These forms should reach Ethel Yon by no later than 9am on Monday 1 September 2008.

Remember that your proxy can be anyone on St Helena even if they are not registered electors. However, you cannot nominate someone if they are already a proxy for someone else.
