Ascension : Conservation Weekly - Explorers Climb Cross Hill
Submitted by The Islander (Conservation Office) 21.08.2008 (Article Archived on 04.09.2008)

Last week the Ascension Explorers visited Cross Hill and the guns.

The children began the morning in Georgetown where they climbed the hill and steps to the old site of the Commodore’s Cottage.  Here the children took in the views and had a close look at the cannons.  They worked together to fill in their activity sheets and answer questions about the guns and historical buildings in Georgetown.  They had great fun exploring the guns from the HMS Hood before returning to Georgetown.

We look forward to taking the children to the lava tunnel or ‘Command Hill Cave’ this week!

Note:  Volunteers are still needed to assist with the botanical survey being conducted by the EU Invasive Species Project.  If you are interested in the project, please contact the Conservation Department at x6359.

NOTICE:  If you have adopted the Ellick family’s cat from Two Boats, please contact the Conservation Centre immediately: x6359. Thank you!

If you have a pet cat, please make sure it is registered and wearing a collar.  Free collars are available from the Conservation Centre.
