Ascension : News From St Mary's Church Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 14.08.2008 (Article Archived on 28.08.2008)
For a number of years of years I enjoyed going fishing with a couple of my friends on a Maundy Thursday evening. We would leave home around five thirty and return next morning.
One occasion stands out in my mind. The sea was calm when we left but during the night the weather suddenly changed and as the conditions grew worse the person in charge of the boat gave instructions to put away the fishing lines and call an end to the fishing. There was no alternative but to obey his instructions.
When Jesus disciples obeyed his command to get into the boat and to go a head of him to the other side of the lake a violent storm blew up. As they battled against the wind and waves they struggled to keep the boat upright. They were not making much progress, were afraid and called to Jesus for help.
There will be moments in our lives when we will come face to face with life storms. God will always be there for us when we reach out for his help.
Have a pleasant week.
