Ascension : PUBLIC NOTICE - Ascension Island Government

Andrew Allen, Head of the Southern Oceans Team in the FCO Overseas Territories Directorate will arrive at Ascension on 13 August 2008 for a two day visit.

He will be accompanied during his visit by Jessica Gladstone, a Foreign Office Legal Adviser, who is visiting Ascension Island for the first time.

The primary purpose of the visit will be to hold discussions on a new Island Council and Constitution for Ascension.  Mr Allen hopes to hear more from people on the island about how they feel an Island Council might work in the future.  Discussions on a new Constitution will give people a first opportunity to hear about and comment on the new draft, ahead of a more formal visit later on this year. 

Workplace meetings are being organized for the visitors.  In addition, meetings will be arranged with private sector business operators, retail and small business operators on the island. 

There will also be a public meeting at 7:30 pm on Wednesday 13 August at Two Boats Club Hall.
