Ascension : ENGLISH BAY BEACH CLEAN-UP
Submitted by The Islander (Islander Internet Editor) 07.08.2008 (Article Archived on 21.08.2008)

Last Friday, the 1st Ascension Girl Guides went to their adopted beach – English Bay for a clean up and to give the rocky pathway a fresh coat of paint.

We were happy to see the beach looking so clean considering we haven’t been there for 2 years due to unforeseen circumstances, but was told the Two Boats School children did it on the Wednesday which, we like to say Thank You for this.  Once the rocks were put back into its appropriate place the painting commence.  Then it was time to check for litter further away from the hut, but checking behind the grate was a shock…………….there was litter and food trying to be camouflage with the rocks.  This was cleared away along with cigarette ends and nails.  If you have wood with nails in please discard the nails in the bins provided, and think of those who come along behind you and could have a nasty accident when the nail is trod on.  We did experience this with a Unit Helper but thank God it did not get stuck in too deep.  So with you been inconsiderate it could cause pain to another person.
