Stacey Yon has graduated from a leading UK law school with a Bachelors Degree in Law. Stacey, who achieved a 2:1 honours from Bristol University, will return to St Helena in August of this year to work in the Legal, Lands and Planning Department for one year as a trainee Crown Counsel in the Attorney General’s Chambers.

The St Helena Government is delighted with Stacey’s success and Attorney General Ken Baddon said “Studying Law is no easy task. Stacey has made a tremendous achievement and she will be an asset to the Attorney General’s Chambers. I look forward to welcoming her and working with her.”

Stacey said: “My degree is a first step towards my becoming a qualified solicitor.  I am excited to have been given the opportunity to return to St Helena for a gap year where I will gain invaluable work experience under the collective supervision of the law officers and the Head of the Legal, Lands and Planning Department.”  

Stacey will bring with her, training in various aspects of law including criminal law, constitutional rights, contracts, property and more. Her input will be valuable to the Legal Lands and Planning Department, and it will allow Stacey to gain practical experience in the working environment.

After her gap year, Stacey will return to the UK to embark on further training. This time, she will study with the BPP Law School in London for one year in legal practice. This will provide her with the skills to become a trainee solicitor. Stacey will then need to work for two years with a Law Society approved law firm in the UK to become a qualified Solicitor. Following this, she will return to the Island to take up full time employment in the Legal, Lands and Planning Department.
