Ascension : News From St Mary's Church
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 31.07.2008 (Article Archived on 14.08.2008)

Jesus taught many things about the Kingdom of Heaven using parables.

In St. Matthew’s Gospel, chapter 13 verses 44 to 52, Jesus continues with his explanation about the Kingdom of Heaven and the final judgment.

He said the Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field, it is like a merchant in search of fine pearls and it is like a net which was thrown into the sea and gathered all kinds of fish.

One will see that this parable is somewhat similar to the one Jesus told about the weeds and the wheat in that they more or less have the same kind of ending.  The weeds will be separated from the wheat at harvest and the good fish will be separated from the bad.   The weeds and the bad fish will be burned but the good wheat will be stored in barns and the fish in vessels.

What this parable teaches is that when the time of separation comes God will be the judge when the good and bad will be sent to their final destinations.

Have a pleasant week

Canon Clive
