The competition was the brainchild of Noddy Lawrence, a man well known among the local fishing community. Cedie Henry from the Turtle Nest quickly got on board, as did Brian Lawrence (Dutch). The competition was quite popular and over the course of the two days nearly 60 keen fishermen took part – some going out on both days!
The monies raised from the competition were as follows:
Income
Registration Fees 510.61
Monies raised from fish auction, including donations 152.64
Profits from bar 64.08
Proceeds from fish fry 124.34
Total 851.67
Expenditure
Paid to Solomon’s Shop 38.61
Paid to Turtle Nest 25.87
Paid into Bank of St Helena 787.19
Total 851.67
The Council would like to reiterate their grateful thanks to Noddy, Cedie and Dutch for the hard work and enthusiasm that made this fund-raising event such an enjoyable occasion. Thanks to Cedie and Sylvia Henry for donating the profits from the bar as well as providing the entertainment and suggesting the venue.
Thanks are also extended to AIG for their help prior to the day; to Sylvia for keeping the drinks flowing; and to David (Platter) Lawrence, Darren Reynolds, Peter Bowers and Chris Lawrence for cooking the mountain of fish, which was delicious. Thank you also to Natalie and Winnie at Tasty Tucker for cooking the fries and making the batter for the fish.
Thank you to Noddy for donating the trophies for the competition and to Cheryl Anthony who did a fine job presenting the winners with their awards.
Well done and thanks to all the fishing enthusiasts, especially the winners, who gave up their lie-ins to participate in the competition and ensured that the event was a great success!
Finally thanks to the many people who supported the competition, those showed up for the fish fry and those who helped in any way not mentioned above.
