Submitted by The Islander (Shari Parkhill) 10.07.2008 (Article Archived on 24.07.2008)

We’d been promised a nice short hash since it was the 4th of July celebration at the base, but apparently the hares have short memories!

Apres Hashers; Sarah & Rachel, No Nuts, Pee Nuts, Stinky Nuts

We’d been promised a nice short hash since it was the 4th of July celebration at the base, but apparently the hares have short memories!  We all gathered at the VC expecting a quick little jaunt, but it was soon apparent that this was not to be.  Madam Mardy Pants was hitching a ride as usual, but it also seems this was about to change as well!

The on-on took us along the road, and out to and across the Queen’s Highway.  The walkers were quite relieved to see the runners pass Red Hill…..quite a relief that was!  Off we went around by the back of the hill, along by the dump fence, past the telephone pole pile and on-on.  A few circle checks along the way and a bar check as well.  Soon the runners were racing along on their own trail, somewhere in the direction of One Boat we heard!

The walkers were quite relieved to keep going on the track, past the old vehicles, and other debris.  With Headmistress keeping us at a good clip, we soon found ourselves across Donkey Plain and out onto the road.  At the circle check we still couldn’t see hide nor hair of the runners, so off we went, straight on (well, following the road at least) for home!  The runners had a long detour but eventually made it back as well.

Little Miss Mardy Pants started walking at this point and we are proud to say that the littlest hasher has now completed her first walking hash….pretty soon she’ll be making it the whole way on her own two feet!  I know a couple of hashers who will be glad of that!  Well done, missy!

A quick refreshment stop at the vehicles, a bit of counting of heads and off we all went to partake of the barbecue at the VC.  Everyone helped the Americans celebrate their 4th of July festivities, and we didn’t even let a bit of rain spoil our picnic!

Thanks to the ladies for setting a great hash, especially the chance for the runners to really stretch their legs!

Next Week:  Red Lion

Hares:  Two Cocks & Bungalow Bill

In the picture:  Little Chuffer, Nip’n’Suck, Madam Mardy Pants, Lanky & Billy Graham
