Ascension : Conservation Weekly - HYDROPONICS SITE: 14 MONTHS AND COUNTING…
Submitted by The Islander (Conservation Office) 10.07.2008 (Article Archived on 24.07.2008)

In May 2007, the AIG Conservation Department first started work clearing Mexican thorn from the old hydroponics site.

In May 2007, the AIG Conservation Department first started work clearing Mexican thorn from the old hydroponics site.  Thanks to help from Frances Dixon of CSR and other volunteers, the site was successfully cleared in just a few months.  This week, staff from the AIG Conservation Department and the CSR Environmental Health team returned to the site to see how things had progressed.  Very little thorn had returned and it didn’t take long to trim and treat the few thorn plants that had sprung up.  Our continued thanks are extended to everyone who helped with the project.

New projects will be starting with invasive plant control in the coming months.  If you are interested in helping out, please phone the Conservation Department at x6359.

NEW STAFF:  The Conservation Department extends a warm welcome to our new youth worker, Danielle Yon!

English Bay:  Anyone who has information about the vehicle tracks on English Bay beach should contact the Conservation Dept. at x6359.  Please note that there is absolutely no driving allowed on any of the beaches and the boulders protecting the beach should not be moved.  Thank you.
