A boat fishing competition organised by David (Noddy) Lawrence in aid of St. Mary’s Church funds took place on Saturday 5th July and Sunday 6th July.  It was an excellent turn out on both days with a total of 51 fishermen taking part.

Both days the fishing was done in scorching hot sun but the pierhead was still well attended by onlookers surveying the catch of the day.  Once the fish was weighed an auction took place with the auctioneer Johnny Hobson.

The winners were:-

Largest Tuna 175lbs        -    Darren O’Dean  (Boat Wooback)

2nd place Tuna 145 lbs     -    Peter Yanulis     (Boat Blue Fin)

3rd place Tuna 135 lbs     -    Lionel Bo            (Boat Lady-Shy) absent for photo

Largest Wahoo 40 lbs      -    Martyn Smith    (Boat Manta Ray)

2nd place Wahoo 39lbs     -    Perry Leo           (Boat Range Rider)

3rd place Wahoo 38lbs     -    Adrian Bowers   (Boat Range Rider)

With the fishing out of the way it was make your way to the Exiles Club where a fish fry took place.  Here was music and a bar provided by Cedie and Sylvia Henry.  Dutch and his team of merry-men cooked in the heat of the sun and fire.  Conger grease splattered Platter’s arms who did not felt a thing!!!   By mid-afternoon a meal of fried fish, fries and baked beans was enjoyed by all.
