Ascension : Audit of Port of Georgetown and Port Security Training
Submitted by The Islander (Ascension Island Government) 03.07.2008 (Article Archived on 17.07.2008)

Following the introduction in July 2004 of the International Ship and Port Security Code Ascension had to undergo an Audit and prepare a Port Security Plan in order for the Port operations to comply with the code and gain accreditation.

Date:  1st July 2008

Last week from 23rd to 28th June 2008 AIG had a Trainer/Consultant on Island to further Audit the Port and review and update our Security Plan and at the same time carry out further training to Port Security Staff.

The Audit and training was undertaken by Mr Roger Morrison from Secure Scot acting on behalf of Maritime Security Solutions Limited, UK.

The following are the names of personnel who attended the training: -

Ascension Island Government

Mrs Shelley Magellan-Wade

Miss Marilyn Mittens

Miss Casey Lawrence

Mrs Sandra Benjamin

Mr Raymond Benjamin

Miss Nicola Dillon

Mrs Freda Yon

Miss Tara Thomas

Serco

Miss Dayna Benjamin

Mr Gerald Yon

Miss Jolene Williams

I would like to congratulate the candidates who attended the course and to thank Roger for carrying out the training, auditing the Port and updating our plan.

The Port is due for External Audit by UK Government Department of Transport next year and the training and work carried out by Roger will stand us in good stead to achieve our accreditation for a further 5 years.

Lawson A Henry

Port Facility Security Officer
