Ascension : News From St Mary's Church
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 03.07.2008 (Article Archived on 17.07.2008)

It was a pleasure to have live music once again for our ‘Songs of Praise’ that attracted just over eighty people in the congregation that included the Girl Guides who also took part on Sunday morning.

It was also good to see a large number gathered outside the church for light refreshments which I am sure everyone enjoyed.

On a lesser happier note.  I learnt on the weekend that two of our regular supporters of the Ascension Day Fair will be leaving us shortly.  Mario McDonald and his wife Bonnie have been strong supporters of our annual fund raising for St. Mary’s Parish.  In addition to helping out on the day of the Fair Bonnie has also served as our Treasurer for a few years.  We shall miss you from the food tent when we have our next Fair.

On behalf of the Church Council I would like to express our thanks and appreciation to Marion and Bonnie for their contribution over the years and may God richly bless them in whatever the future holds for them.

Have an enjoyable week and look forward to seeing you for the fishing competition and fish fry arranged by David (Noddy) Lawrence this weekend.

Canon Clive.

NOTE.  There will be an early celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 8am this coming Sunday and not at 10.30 am
