Ascension : SWARM TAEKWONDO ASCENSION ISLAND
Submitted by The Islander (Nathan Prince) 27.11.2003 (Article Archived on 11.12.2003)

On Wednesday 19th November 2003, Swarm Taekwondo, Ascension Island conducted it’s second annual Black Belt grading.

On Wednesday 19th November 2003, Swarm Taekwondo, Ascension Island conducted it’s second annual Black Belt grading.  Master Ian Lennox (6th Dan), a delegate from the British Taekwondo Control Board, arrived from the UK to conduct the grading.  Six students took part, all of whom passed.

Congratulations go to Robert Frauenstein, Dayna Benjamin and Carly Thomas on achieving their Black Belt (1st Dan).  These 3 students have worked extremely hard for the past 2 ½ years, demonstrating their dedication and commitment to Taekwondo.  They should be proud of their achievement, as Dayna and Carly are now the youngest Black Belt students on Ascension. Robert is also the oldest student training and should therefore be especially proud of his achievement.

Congratulations also to Russell Peters, Gary Robinson and Suelaine Green on achieving their 2nd Dan Black Belt.

All six students were put to the test mentally and physically as they were asked to demonstrate Patterns (which are set moves and techniques), releases from grabs, one step sparring, free sparring and destruction.

Thanks to the Royal Air Force and Sqn Ldr Pattinson for their contribution in paying the air fare for Master Ian Lennox, for the use of their Gymnasium and also for presenting the awards to all of the students.
