Ascension : PUBLIC NOTICE - New Year Honours 2009 Submitted by The Islander (Ascension Island Government) 22.05.2008 (Article Archived on 05.06.2008)
Members of the public are invited to submit nominations for the New Year Honours List 2009.
When selecting candidates the following criteria will be borne in mind: honours are awarded on merit, for exceptional achievement or service, beyond what might normally be expected; awards are not automatic, nor do they follow simply as a result of being appointed to, or doing, a particular job; and award nominations should, where possible and appropriate, place emphasis on voluntary service.
It should also be noted that age is not a factor in awarding honours and younger members of the community who have made an outstanding contribution or who have given exceptional service, should not be overlooked.
In addition, when selecting candidates the following priorities will be considered
- people involved in humanitarian or human right work;
- those whose work reflects real credit on the United Kingdom;
- those who are making important contributions to British trade development;
- people involved in voluntary work and service to the community;
- those whose work contributes significantly to the furtherance of Britain’s interests and objectives overseas;
- diversity
If you intend nominating someone for an award, it is important that you bring out in detail the work they have done and highlight the exceptionality of the service, how the person has gone the extra mile.
Nominations for the New Year Honours List should be submitted to the Administrator no later than Thursday, 29th May 2009.
Further information and nomination forms may be obtained from the Administrator’s Office.
