Ascension : Church News

Last Sunday our thoughts were focused on the Gift of the Spirit.  Jesus knew that his Apostles needed help to enable them to carry on with his mission.

We know what it is like when someone we depend on and is close to us leaves, it is only natural that we find it hard to bear the thought of them leaving.  When Jesus told the Apostles that he was leaving them they must have felt the same way.  They were with him daily and his going away was going to be hard for them to accept.  Jesus knew their feelings and told them “it is for your own good that I go away because unless I go the Spirit will not come to you.  But if I go I will send him to you”.

At Pentecost the Apostles received the gift of the Holy Spirit that enabled them to do the things they were incapable of.  They had become a changed people.  It is good to know that the power that the Apostles received through the Spirit is available for us too.

BISHOP’S VISIT.

It is always a privilege to welcome our Bishop for his annual visit to our Parish.  He will be on Ascension for one day only in June on his way to the United Kingdom and will be staying in St. Mary’s Vicarage.  When he returns in September he we will here for a longer period and will do a Confirmation.

Have a pleasant week.

Canon Clive.
