Georgetown square came alive on Saturday 3rd May as Ascension Day Fair came to town. As ADF returned to Georgetown this year after its brief trip to Two Boats in 2007, there were smiles on faces, balloons tied to pushchairs and great deal of laughter echoed around the car park in front of the Post Office as everybody seemed to be having a whole lot of fun.
It didn’t end there, either! In the old cinema inside the Saints’ Club, there was a wonderful array of local produce on display. The Craft Show proved to be a huge success this year, attracting around twice as many entries as last year. With 50 different categories of entry, the possibilities for the people of Ascension Island to display their talents were almost endless. On show was an amazing exhibition of baking, handicrafts, horticulture and many wonderful pieces of artwork, handwriting and models, perhaps worthy of a gallery display of their own.
The contributions from the children of Ascension Island definitely deserve a mention of their own. We really do have a wealth of talented youngsters among us, who will no doubt be wowing us with their work at Ascension Day Fair for years to come. Some of the children who won prizes for their entries are pictured above after a special assembly held last Friday at Two Boats School.
Well done to everyone who entered this year, and to Cup Winners Mick Holland, Rosa Guild, Jenny Duncan and Claire Holland.
