Ascension : MESSAGE - Herman Zwinger,
Submitted by The Islander (Nathan Prince) 08.05.2008 (Article Archived on 22.05.2008)

I just read about a member of the island wandering around the area where the American forces lived during WWII.

I was one of the last of the U.S Army Air Corps members to be stationed on the island from April 1946 to May 1947 . The last plane to leave when the small base closed was a B-17 and I was one of the flight crew.  During my tour of duty I did some 8mm movies of the island .
Would you like a DVD of some of that footage?
I have a hundred and one stories to relate about Ascension in those days.
and would be delighted to share them with anyone interested.
Sincerely,  Herman Zwinger,  Lt. Colonel
USAF (Ret)
Colorado Springs, CO
