Wednesday the 23rd of April was St George’s day. St. George is the patron saint of England. His emblem, a red cross on a white background, is the flag of England.

We learnt that the Arabic name for St George means ‘the green one’ and he is known as a protector of trees, and also ‘healer’.

One of the best-known stories about Saint George is his fight with a dragon.

St. George heard all about the village where there was a dragon that was killing all the women. He went to fight the dragon but the first time he stabbed the dragon his spear broke into a thousand pieces. St. George fell of his horse and rolled under the enchanted orange tree where he got his strength back and he was then ready to fight again. He stabbed the dragon under the wing and the dragon died.

St. George was riding his horse when he saw a princess going to her death. He told the Princess to go back to the Palace. St. George continued to ride into the village and he saw the dragon and he fought him. St. George did not kill him the first time because the dragon’s scales were too hard and his spear broke into a thousand

pieces.

St. George went to the Village as the women were being killed by the dragon. A man told St. George that a princess was going to be killed so St. George went to find her. He found the Princess and told her to go back to the Palace. St. George went to the dragon’s cave. The dragon came out and made a very loud roar. St. George fought the dragon with his spear but the dragon’s scales were too hard and his spear broke into a thousand pieces. St. George fell of his horse and rolled under the enchanted orange tree that made him stronger. He jumped back on to his horse and took out his sword and stabbed the dragon under his wing and the dragon died.
