Ascension : Ascension Day Fair Crafts Show

I’m Bored! – heard that too many times lately?    Well now there is no need to hear it anymore – not until after Ascension Day Fair anyway – you see there is so much you could be doing to get ready.  Refine your skills or even learn a new one.

You can pick up programmes from Naafi, V.C. and Solomons (but you may need to ask as they keep blowing away) also any committee member can soon sort you out.  But for now to get you going here are a few more things you can try.

There is a bit of a theme this year of “friends”  so we are looking for the children to enter a photograph they themselves have taken using the title “Friends” for their subject.

Item made from construction toys using your own idea’s.  That can be a lego car, or house, a mechano helicopter or even a scoobie pen or key ring.  Stickle bricks, or hama beads or any other construction toy can be entered – but there are two different sections – one which will need to include the instructions if you used them and this one is using your own idea’s.

A paperweight – any kind any style – even better if you have made it yourself.  But this is the one class that doesn’t even have to be your own work!  If you have a paperweight that many people have admired for whatever reason – let us all have a look!

Homemade article of woodwork.  I know there are some very gifted folk on the island that manage to produce all sorts from a piece of wood – from a boat for a child to the wooden turtle trays and boxes and even coffee tables.  One friend of mine once said she was bored so went along to the woodwork classes held at the local school – I don’t know what the woodwork teacher thought when he had asked them to go and design something they wanted to make over the coming weeks and her design was a double bed!  And she did it – so never say you’re bored or I might set you a similar challenge!!!

Finally this shouldn’t take up too much room and you have to consider how hungry we will get while working all morning – what better than tasting the gingerbread that you are so good at making – oh go on !

There will be certificates for the best in the show and maybe a little something extra to say thank you for showing us your crafts.  There is also the coveted cups – won last year by Jenny for her cooking, Jimmy for his horticulture (that’s fruit and veg to me) Ellen for her many prizewinning exhibits in the childrens section and Catherine for the most points overall.  Their names are now on the cups – but who will it be this year?
