Ascension : Conservation Weekly
Submitted by The Islander (Conservation Office) 21.02.2008 (Article Archived on 06.03.2008)

The Conservation Department would like to extend its thanks to Fiona Steel.

The Conservation Department would like to extend its thanks to Fiona Steel.  Fiona has been a volunteer since May 2007 and has been a tremendous help in the Shade Houses, assisting with the potting and care of our endemic ferns, and with invasive species control efforts. Fiona will be leaving the island next week and we wish her well!

REMINDERS:

The Conservation Department has FREE collars for all cats on the island; you can pick one up in the Conservation Centre, x6359. Also, this is a gentle reminder that cats are meant to be kept inside.  If cats are left outside they will be at risk of being lost or run over.

The sooty terns or “wideawakes” are nesting in Mars Bay. You can book a Wideawake tour to see the birds by ringing the Conservation Centre at x6359. If you go to see the birds on your own, please park at the designated area and do NOT drive past the sign. THANK YOU!
