Ascension : Conservation Weekly - Training was a Success! Submitted by The Islander (Conservation Office) 14.02.2008 (Article Archived on 28.02.2008)
Tools Training as part of the EU Invasive Species Project went very well. Courses covered maintenance and usage of woodchippers, chainsaws, and brushcutters.
This training will help our staff control invasive plants whilst protecting our endemic species. A special thank-you goes out to the volunteers who took time off to participate in the courses.
REMINDERS:
Conservation Department has FREE collars for all cats on the island. Please make sure that your cat is wearing a collar. If you need a cat collar you can pick one up in the Conservation Centre, x6359. Also, this is a gentle reminder that cats are meant to be kept inside. If cats are left outside they will be at risk of being lost or run over.
The sooty terns or “wideawakes” are nesting in MarsBay. You can book aWideawake tour to see the birds by ringing the Conservation Centre at x6359. If you go to see the birds on your own, please park at the designated area and do NOT drive past the sign. THANK YOU
