Ascension : Conservation Weekly
Submitted by The Islander (Conservation Office) 07.02.2008 (Article Archived on 21.02.2008)

This week staff members and volunteers of the Conservation Department will undertake Tools Training as part of the EU Invasive Species Project. Courses will cover maintenance and usage of woodchippers, chainsaws, strimmers and brushcutters. This training will help our staff control invasive plants whilst protecting our endemic species.

THANK-YOU to Ian Close for volunteering during your time off and thanks to all of our other volunteers who’ve helped out with turtle monitoring, land crab monitoring and invasive plant work lately. We appreciate your help!!!

REMINDER: Please remember that during the sea turtle nesting season (from December to June) there are no lights and no music allowed at the beach huts after 9 pm at night. Also there is no overnight camping allowed on any beaches as these activities will disturb our endangered sea turtles. Thank you!
