If you find nothing in your stocking or under the tree, maybe you have been visited by the Grinch! But don’t worry, just watch and Christmas will still happen you will see…

Does this remind you of anyone in your family?

Then he growled, with his Grinch fingers nervously drumming,
"I MUST find some way to stop Christmas from coming!"

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is one of my favourites and has been enjoyed by children now for 50 years!  It is one of the best-known children's books by Dr. Seuss. who also wrote The cat in the hat and Green eggs and Ham among other wacky tales.  The Grinch is written in rhymed verse, with illustrations by the author in 1957. The ink-drawn illustrations make use of only black, red, and pink (the latter being the color of the Grinch's eyes), and the rhyme is strict and never skips a syllable. (Year 10 take note)!

So what’s it all about?

The Grinch, a bitter, cave-dwelling creature with a heart “two sizes too small” lives on snowy mountain crumpit,  a steep 10,000 foot high mountian just north of Whoville, home of the merry and warm hearted Whos.  His only companion  is Max, his faithful but dim dog.  From his pearch high atop Mount Crumpit, the Grinch can hear the noisy Christmas festivities that take place in Whoville.   Envious of the Whos’ happiness, he makes plans to descend on the town and, by means of serial burglary, deprives them of their Chrismas presents and decorations and thus “prevent Christmas from coming”.  However, he learns in the end that despite his success in stealing all the christmas presents and decorations from the Whos, Christmas comes just the same, but how and why he ponders…

Every Who Down in Whoville Liked Christmas a lot...
But the Grinch,Who lived just north of Whoville, Did NOT!
The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!
Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason.
It could be his head wasn't screwed on just right.
It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
But I think that the most likely reason of all,
May have been that his heart was two sizes too small.
