Ascension : News from Two Boats School
Submitted by The Islander (Soo Matthews) 27.09.2007 (Article Archived on 11.10.2007)

Year 10 Work Experience - At the end of the summer term last year y10 students (now y11) were accepted into various organisations across the island for work experience.

We’d like to thank the companies involved and also the individuals who made it such an enjoyable time for the students.  They took the time last week in lessons to write about their best memories and you can read about these in this week’s Islander too.

Works over the Summer

A number of works were carried out over the summer holiday and we would like to thank

  • AIG Works for their hard work ensuing that our new Nursery classroom was ready for start of term.

  • Cable and Wireless for installing our new phone system and carrying out the re-wiring for the school intranet.

These works will all make a massive improvement to our children’s schooling.

Bus runs

Many thanks again to AIG works for allowing Nicky Benjamin to drive the bus during Darren’s leave period.  He’s doing a fabulous job.

Evening Classes

Sorry we were not able to run all the courses offered as there were not enough people interested in them.  The following evening classes will run this year –

Evening classes start this week (24th September) as follows –

Spanish         Mondays 6:30 to 8pm

Basic ICT       Tuesday 6:00 to 7:30pm (10 week course only)

Maths             Wednesday 6:00 to 7:30pm

These are open to everyone on the island.  It is not too late to join a course – please contact Tavie at school.  Sessions are £1 each with any exam fees being paid by you.

Jeans for Genes Day

Please see the additional page about this.  This year it is on October 5th and it would be great if organisations joined in again to raise money.  We have bought some zip pulls to sell to the children for £1 which will go to the charity fund.

Many thanks.
