Activities with the Ascension Explorers came to a close last week. The final activity took place on Green Mountain, where the Explorers learned how to identify Ascension’s endemic plants. The children enjoyed visiting the shade houses and playing games on the lawn afterwards. Winners from the previous week’s activities at Deadman’s Beach were the Deadman’s group. The winning group from the Green Mountain activity was the Ascension Lilies. The overall winners for the month were the following: first place, Danielle Bennett; second place, Callum John; third place, Kyle Francis. Many thanks to the children for their keen participation throughout the month! Also, a special thank you goes out to Natasha Williams for doing such a fantastic job organising all of the outings.
Note: The Conservation Department has two new items on offer in the Centre. The first is Mary the Masked Booby, a children’s book authored by Tara Pelembe with photography from Anselmo Pelembe. This book tells the story of a pair of masked boobies on Ascension Island, and is on sale for £5. The second new item is Ascension Survival, a DVD featuring Ascension wildlife and conservation work.
