Ascension : Girl-Guides' Awards Submitted by The Islander (Nathan Prince) 05.07.2007 (Article Archived on 19.07.2007)
Congratulations to Rosie Wade for achieving her Leadership Award for Rainbows and to Tania Maggott for achieving her Leadership Award for Guides.
Ascension Island Girlguiding, were very pleased to welcome Christine Barnes, a Girlguiding trainer from the UK. Christine arrived here on Thursday 21 June. After a short rest, Christine was launched into a whirlwind of training with the three Girlguiding Units on Ascension.
During the week Christine was on the Island, she visited the Rainbow and Guide Units. She was impressed by the enthusiasm the girls exhibited for Girlguiding and for the leadership qualities she saw in their leaders. Christine had an infectious, enthusiastic personality which helped her to impart lots of useful information regarding Girlguiding to the leaders and girls.
As part of the Girlguiding Leadership Award, Christine was able to train and assess the Leaders and a few other members of the community in a six hour first aid course called First Response. Congratulations to the following people who are now trained First Response First Aiders for the next three years; Elizabeth Hill, Rosie Wade, Helen Owen, Tania Maggott, Wendy Benjamin, Tracey Yon, Catherine Hoirns and Ed Kerslake.
The Girlguiding leaders on Ascension Island extend their grateful thanks to Christine for making the trip here and for her advice. We all thoroughly enjoyed meeting her and spending time showing her around the Island.
