The Ascension Island Government (AIG) is seeking to recruit a dynamic professional/technical person, with excellent management and organisational skills, to fill the position of Director of Technical Services. The principal job purpose is the overall management of the Works & Services Department.

The Ascension Island Government (AIG) is seeking to recruit a dynamic professional/technical person, with excellent management and organisational skills, to fill the position of Director of Technical Services. The principal job purpose is the overall management of the Works & Services Department.

Duties of the post include:

·         Setting the strategic direction of the Works & Services Department

·         Delivery, within budget, of AIG’s Capital Works and Maintenance Programmes

·         Acting as the Island’s de facto Planning Officer

·         Overall responsibility for AIG’s health & safety procedures

·         Maintenance of the Quality System for Works & Services.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer or Chartered Surveyor with considerable experience of the design and costing of projects and managing service delivery projects to time, budget and specification.  The Director will be required to lead the Department, setting operating standards and planning and budgeting for the work programme. Ensuring its effective delivery will involve a flexible management style and the use of creative solutions. 

The salary offered will be in the region of £51,000.00 per annum, dependant on qualifications and experience, plus local benefits. These include use of a car and furnished accommodation.  The package is subject to local tax.

A 2-year contract will be offered and the successful candidate will be expected to take up post in or about January 2008.
