Ascension : VACANCY - STOREKEEPER - WORKS AND SERVICES DEPARTMENT

The Ascension Island Government (AIG) will shortly have a vacancy for a Storekeeper. The post is within the Central Stores Section and reports directly to the Stores Supervisor but is responsible to the Director of Technical Services.



Applicants should have a good standard of education, and at least three years of previous experience of handling cash and stores. He/she must be computer literate with a working knowledge of a wide range of Microsoft applications and the Sage System.


The main duties of the post are:-


·         To assist the Senior Storekeeper with the daily operations in AIG’s Stores, working to the Quality Assured procedures within the approved finance.


·         To assist and handle the stock issues to customers and to make sure that material requisition chits are authorised and quality controlled.


·         To transmit correctly stock issues, invoices, cash sales and credit notes.


·         To assist with unloading of freight cargo and the inspection of goods received.


·         Assisting with cash – balancing cash sales transactions.


·         Cleaning of Stores building on a regular basis.


·         Carrying out stevedore duties as a core function, this involves working 12-hour shifts and at times, weekends.



A clean, valid driving licence for Classes A, B1, B2 & H3 is also required.  The successful applicant will be expected to work to ISO 9001:2000 accreditation standards and have regard for AIG’s health and safety standards.



The post is offered as a Single Status Contract for two years.  The Job is graded at Level 3 with a minimum and maximum salary band of £5,800 - £9,200 (before tax) per annum.  The successful applicant’s salary will fall within this salary band and will depend on qualifications and experience.  In addition to the salary, an allowance of £2,688 per annum will also be paid.  Accommodation will be provided.
