Ascension : Sorry we were off line
Submitted by The Islander (Nathan Prince) 09.10.2003 (Article Archived on 23.10.2003)

We apologise for our recent break in service. The following has been received from our service provider:

May we once again apologise for the recent disruption to our hitherto
reliable service.  This was due to the ISP providing service to our Data
Centre in Seattle, USA, ceasing all operations last week without any notice
to any of its customers.  We are in the process of finding another up stream
provider to the Seattle Data Centre, but in the interim we have switched
over to our back-up Data Centre in Amsterdam, co-hosted with RIPE - the
regional IP address registry for Europe.

The back-up server is now fully operational, all information has been
transferred over and saved, to minimise the disruption to you and your
users.  We are confident we can provide the same high level of service to
you using the Amsterdam server which is now fully functional (web, email and
ftp services)

To ensure full redundancy this server is being backed up to our London Data Centre.

Once service in Seattle is stable we plan to transfer all hosted sites back
to Seattle Data Centre. This will be invisible to you but before we do this,
we will send you an e-mail.

Thank you for your patience during this very frustrating time. Rest assured
we have worked flat-out to correct the problems and if you have any further
problems with any part of our service, please do not hesitate in contacting
us.
