The Ascension Island Government is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced person to fill a current vacant position of Carpenter.
The Carpenter’s post is within the Works and Maintenance Section and reports directly to the Works & Maintenance Foreman.
In addition to having the ability to undertake a wide range of Carpentry duties, the successful applicant will also be required to carry out stevedore duties as a core function of this post, and consequently at times will be required to work a 12-hour shift and weekends when performing these duties. Overtime rates will apply for duties performed over and above the 40-hour week. In addition to this, the applicant may be required to perform such other related tasks, which may reasonably be required.
It is essential that the applicant has previous experience of carpentry work and has gained an appropriate qualification or competency certificate. A clean, valid driving licence in Classes A, B1 and B2 is also required.
The job is graded at Level 4 with a minimum and maximum salary band of £6,800 - £10,200 (before tax) per annum. The successful applicant’s salary will fall within this salary band and will depend on qualifications and experience. In addition to the salary, a single allowance of £2,688 per annum will be paid. Single accommodation will be provided.
The post is offered on a Single Status Contract for one or two years.
