Air Stewards and Civilians Petition for Phone Masts

A familiar sight for Air Stewards is the traditional (and for training) Tornado escort into MPA.

Air Stewards working on the Tristar flight that comes to Ascension Island and the Falklands have been circulating a petition to be sent to Vodafone, a mobile phone company. The petition explains that Air-crew and Civilians would like to have the two masts installed so they can phone home without having to queue for Cable & Wireless phones that have been available on both Islands for several years.

The petition reads, "We the Armed Forces, Civilian and Local members of the public are petitioning you to ask for the installation of a mobile phone mast for both Ascension and the Falkland Islands. On request earlier to the Customer Services Department, we were advised to forward a petition to show the support you would receive if masts were raised. We have been given permission by the Station Commanders to go ahead with our request for better telecommunications on the two Islands."

Completed forms should be returned to Cpl A. Air Stewards’ Admin Office,216 Sqdn. RAF Brize Norton, OXON. OX18 1 LX, or alternatively, to any Air Steward. Stewards have been asking Tristar passengers travelling between Brize Norton and the Falkland Islands via Ascension to sign their petition.
