The Police received and dealt with ten reports for the period of Monday 18th December to the 02nd January which includes three Request Police Assistance three Road Traffic Accidents and three Road Traffic Offences and one report of Depositing litter.

On Friday evening the police received and dealt with a report of a Road traffic Accident that occurred on the Gannet road near Geneses V11 Compound, where there was a damage only accident.  The vehicle sustained extensive damage.  The driver was found to be over the prescribed limit and he will appear before the court in due cause.   On Saturday 23rd Dec there was another Road traffic Accident occurred on the road near the junction of Command Hill, whereby two vehicles were involved and was extensively damaged.  One of the drivers was injured and was taken to Hospital.  This accident was alcohol related and one of the drivers will appear before the court in due cause.  Another Accident occurred on the Ash pit Road on Monday 25th and the driver was given a verbal warning.  On the same day a person was seen depositing litter in a public place in Georgetown, The person was given a Formal Caution.  Three Road Traffic Offences were dealt with by Police by way of verbal warnings.

We would like to say that in respect of the above we had a relatively quiet period throughout the festive season.

Throughout the festive season the police have been carrying out Vehicle checks around the Island whereby some vehicles were found to have defective lights.  I would like to remind all owners/drivers to ensure that your vehicle is properly maintained and to see that it is in good operational order, before it can be used on a road.   There are also concerns of vehicles running around displaying coloured lights to the front and rear of their vehicles.  The Road Traffic (ASC) Regulations, Section 50 (1)states;-  No vehicle shall, except with the permission of the Motor Licensing Officer, show any light other than a white light to the front  and Section 50 (2) states:- No vehicle shall show any light other than a red light to the rear, but this subsection shall not apply to lamps carried for the purpose of internal illumination or of illuminating a number plate or to any device for giving signals to overtaking traffic or to a light which is being used for the purpose of enabling the vehicle to travel backwards.  We have also been setting up the speed monitor on various roadsides, which seemed to be very effective.  It has been mentioned by some people that they are not familiar with converting kilometres into mile per hour.  The conversion table are as follows:-

MPH                KMH

20        =            32

30        =            48

40        =            64

If you need a conversion table card you may collect them from the Police Office, free of charge.  This card can be place on the windshield of your vehicle.

The Police have delivered training to the A.I.G Port Security Officers on Tuesday 09th January on powers of arrest.  This training was held at the Counsel Chambers.  All participants found it interesting and enjoyed the session.

There will be another Surgery hour to be held at Two Boats Police Station on Saturday 13th January 2006 between 10.00 hours and 12.00 hours.  We welcome you to discuss any policing issues or concerns.  I look forward to seeing you there.

I would like to take this opportunity in thanking you all for your co operation and valuable support throughout 2006 and trust that you will continue to do the same for 2007

Clarence Roberts

Police Sergeant
