After three weekends, the Ascension Island One Boat Open Golf Championship, came to its conclusion last Saturday the 14th Oct 06.

The new scratch champion and previous winner in 2003/2004, was myself  Alex Turner, will not wallow myself in praise, just well done, I had a lead of three shots going into the final round,

over Ray Crowie, with Lawson Henry, George Thomas and Norman Thomas not far behind chasing me for the title, although they all did their best to cut the lead, I was able to hold them all

off, and lift the title, runner up this year and holding his form very well was Ray Crowie, sorry Ghosty, finishing in third place, with a fine finish and pipping Lawson, by one shot was Norman Thomas,

well done to all, hope to see you all back next year, when I will be defending the trophy again.

Tournament Scores: CHAMPION/ ALEX TURNER 285.  RUNNER UP/ RAY CROWIE 291.   THIRD/NORMAN THOMAS 294.

In the Flights, their was some very good scoring all round, quite a bit of handicap cutting to come from these flights, the results of the flights were as follows:

A FLIGHT CHAMPION: BUTCH BLEASDALE NETT 200.   RUNNER UP: JEFF AMES 211.

B FLIGHT CHAMPION: MARTIN BUCKLEY NETT 195.      RUNNER UP: DARREN HART 200.

C FLIGHT CHAMPION: JANET CRANFIELD NETT 199.   RUNNER UP DANNY THOMAS 225.

A  total off 35 players took part in this years competition, 16 qualifying for the scratch and 19 taking part in the flights, thank you all for making this years tournament a good one.

In the third round on the 8 Oct 06, Ray "GHOSTY" Crowie, recorded a hole in one on the par 3 seventh, well done to you sir, the trophy is in the post.

Their was numerous two balls recorded over the champioship, you know who you were, so well done to you all.

There is always numerous people behind the scenes, who help to make the championship run smoothly, I would like to thank the following people,

George and Norma Thomas, Gary and Sharon Thomas, Dutch, Patrick Moyce, Paul Edwards, Ray c and Janet, Glyn and Jean, Andy and staff at travellers, Johnny Hobson for doing

the auction, DJ Colin for the music and karaoke on the final evening, all the marshalls for the final two rounds, Paul, Stan, Howard, Butch, Jeff, and Pete Cundy, thanks to you all again.

Last but not least, I would like to say a big thank you to Al Mack, for all the photographs he took at the presentation and afterwards during the evening, most appreciated Al, I know the members

and players always appreciate these, thanks again for you time and effort.
