Ascension : Conservation Weekly
Submitted by The Islander (Gavin Yon) 14.09.2006 (Article Archived on 28.09.2006)

This week Ascension Conservation bid farewell to a dedicated volunteer Margaret Cripps.

This week Ascension Conservation bid farewell to a dedicated volunteer Margaret Cripps.  Margaret has spent many long hours assisting with Turtle Monitoring, Sea Bird Monitoring and Tour Guiding and most of all her dedication to the critically endangered endemic plant species on Green Mountain.  The Pteris Adscensionis over the years, due to introduced invasive plants had declined to a mere 50 plants growing in the wild in the world. During the pass 18 months Maragret worked along side the Assistant Conservation Officer Stedson Stroud MBE, JP and has successfully helped to save the Pteris Adscensionis fern species from extinction.

On behalf of the Conservation Team and also Mrs Jacqui Ellick from the Turtle Watch Group, we wish to extend special thanks and appreciation to Margaret for her dedication and enthusiasm towards this important work.

Best wishes to Graham, Margaret and Alex for the future.
