Submitted by The Islander (Juanita Brock) 08.09.2006 (Article Archived on 21.09.2006)

A flight from Brize Norton to Ascension Island has been affected by severe turbulence and passengers have been injured.

Passengers Injured in Turbulence

Flight RR3220 en route from Brize Norton to Ascension Island hit an unexpected pocket of turbulence last night which resulted in the injury of 4 passengers, one of whom was a Falkland Islander travelling home. Crew and medical staff also travelling on board, gave first aid treatment to the injured passengers. No-one was seriously injured but all were taken to Georgetown Hospital in Ascension for assessment and further treatment as required. Two of the passengers (including the Falkland Islander) will continue the journey southbound later this evening as scheduled. One passenger is not yet able to fly and will remain in hospital, accompanied by her husband who was also one of the injured.  The incident happened approximately 3 hours from Ascension Island.
