David Higgins, who left his post i the Falklands to take up one at Two Boats School on Ascension Island, is back in the Falklands for another stint as head teacher at the Community School.
Head teacher employed for FICS
The Director of Education is pleased to announce that the services of an experienced Headteacher have been secured for the start of the next academic year.
David Higgins, already well known in the Islands following a successful five year contract as Headteacher of FICS, has agreed to return in September to take over the Headship for a term. During that time as well as managing the school, he will work closely with the Director of Education to make a permanent appointment which it is hoped will be effective from January 2007.
Mrs Booth, Director of Education said she was delighted that David had felt able to come at relatively short notice. David already knows the Islands and how the systems here work so he will be able to fit in immediately. I am looking forward to working with him. It is important for the school and the community that there is a Headteacher in place and this appointment will help to provide stability and support for both pupils and staff.
Councillor Richard Stevens said, “We all remember David as a very effective Headteacher. He was in charge of the school when my children attended FICS and I am very confident of his ability to provide leadership and direction for the future very quickly. It will also give us the time we need to recruit a permanent Headteacher who can lead the school into a new phase of its development”.
Editor’s note: David Higgins also took on the post of head at Two Boats School on Ascension Island and left in late 2005.
