Submitted by (Juanita Brock) 07.07.2006 (Article Archived on 08.09.2006)

One of the South Atlantic's best known and energetic supporters has died in Scotland.

DEATH NOTICE: DAVID NICHOLLS

Government House announced today that Brigadier David Nicholls (Royal Marines), who was Commander British Forces, Falkland Islands, from 1999 to 2000, died suddenly at home in Dundee, Scotland on 4 July.  According to H. E. the Governor Mr. Howard Pearce, “David had many friends in the Falkland Islands and in recent years had been working closely with the South Georgia Government as the Director of Dundee University's Project Atlantis and as Chairman of the South Georgia Heritage Trust.”  Adding that he was a man of great energy, enthusiasm and charisma, Mr Pearce said he was sure that many Islanders will share my deep sadness at this news, and will join me in sending condolences to David's family.
