Tales from Green Mountain

Blue Dragon (Part Two)

Blue flew at lightening speed over the Ocean, circling and diving until he found the fire that the Yellow Dragon had described.  The fire below him was bigger than any that he had ever seen!  The Earth had risen above the boiling Ocean and flames of glowing, molten rock leapt high into the sky which was filled with grit and dust.  Blue had to use great dragon breaths to clear his way and keep himself from harm.  He flew around the fire trying to decide what to do but it was becoming harder and harder to breathe.  He began to feel weak and found it difficult to fly.  He began to fall down towards the fire and the heat began to burn the edges of his scales.  Suddenly, a huge gust of air lifted him above the flames and dust cloud.  He took several deep breaths of clean air and used all of his strength to fly away.

Blue was very tired.  He knew that it was dangerous to stay near to the fire so he decided to fly back home and tell the Dragon King what had happened and what he had seen.  He began to fly back to Africa but, before long, his wings felt heavy and he could barely fly.  He struggled to flap his weary wings but, again, he began to fall down.  He could see the Ocean below him, however, he was not afraid.  He remembered all of the happy summers that he had spent there with his marine friends.  He landed softly in the water and used his large wings to keep himself afloat.  He was so tired that he could not move and gradually the cool, calm sea rocked him to sleep.

Why don’t you draw a picture?  You could draw the fire in the box below.

When Blue woke up, he was surrounded by his friends!  The whales and dolphins had found him and wanted to help him to get home.  The largest whale swam beneath Blue, raised him above the water and carried him swiftly towards land.  The other whales and dolphins followed chattering excitedly.  Blue rested during the journey and, found that he was strong enough to fly as they approached the shore.  He thanked his friends.  Then, standing on the whale’s back, he stretched to full height, flapped his wings and took off into the sky.  He hovered in the sky for a while and watched as the happy group swam back out to sea.  The whales flicked their huge tails out of the Ocean before diving beneath the waves and the dolphins leapt and raced behind them in groups of two and three.  Then, Blue disappeared!   All that remained was a shower of blue sparkles that fell from the sky.

Why don’t you colour the picture of the Dolphin in the box below? When Blue got back to the Atlas Mountains, the Dragon King listened very carefully to what he had to say.  He was very concerned about Blue and told him to rest in his cave for a week.  Then, he decided to call a meeting of all dragons to discuss the strange fire in the Ocean.  He asked Blue to fly to the rainforests and deserts of the world to invite the Green, Brown and Yellow Dragons to the Meeting.  Blue felt much better and, again, agreed to go.  The Dragon King was very proud of him.  Blue flew at great speed over the rainforests and deserts, changing from light to dark blue as day gradually changed to night.  He used rivers, hills and mountains during the day and the stars at night to find his way.  He stopped only to give out invitations and have a quick meal of fruit, nuts and leaves.  When he got home, he was exhausted and slept a very deep, dragon sleep for days.
